First Australian installation of Afinia Duo puts Minuteman Press one step ahead

Peacock Bros. has completed the first Australian installation of Afinia’s L801 inkjet printer and DLF-220S in-line finishing machine at the Minuteman Press Australian Flagship site in Abbotsford, Victoria. Peacock Bros. worked closely with Minuteman Head Office in the US, where successful rollout of this premium Afinia equipment has seen franchisees increase their product offering to meet demand for custom, short run roll-fed labels.

The Afinia installation at Minuteman Abbottsford, means that they can now print high quality labels in any shape and size up to 200mm wide and 300mm long, and offer laminated (both matt and gloss) and waterproof labels. The Afinia printer is available in pigment or dye options, does not require any tooling and enables the operator to run different shaped jobs side by side, saving time and costs.

Keenan Archer, owner of Minuteman Press Abbotsford, says that the Afinia installation means they are now able to cater for those urgent label runs, when turnaround is required within a few days.

“When Covid first hit in March and April, we missed opportunities as clients didn’t want to wait the traditional lead times of 12 plus working days that most trade label companies offer in the market place. With the Afinia equipment we can now get stock to them almost immediately, while we continue to process the balance of their order using traditional printing methods for the longer runs.”

“Another major benefit for our clients is the cost reduction of not having to factor in new plates and cutting form set-up fees. It’s early days, however we see the Afinia L801 label printer and finisher as being the key factor in our growth in the short-run label sector in 2021,” Mr Archer said.
